Zig when others zag, and vice versa

When the majority “zigs,” you should “zag.” Be different. Stand out from the crowd. Being the same as everyone else will get you “normal” results. And right now, “normal” means carrying a lot of student loans, car debt, house debt, credit card debt, being overweight, not reading/improving yourself, etc. Why be normal? When everyone does the same thing, they become replaceable. The supply is high and the demand is low. Be irreplaceable. Develop skills that are useful, in high demand, and differentiate you from others.

Stop worrying about what other people think

Do not let the opinions of others (or, more accurately, what you think their opinions MIGHT BE), stop you from dreaming big and being true to yourself. We are all “weird” in one way or another. We’re all unique.

Stop trying to be like everyone else. The average American is overweight, in debt, and doesn’t like their job (life?)…why would you strive to be more like that?

Be true to yourself. Dream big, but more importantly, go after those dreams everyday. People may say that what’s you’re aiming for isn’t possible. But those people either don’t understand the dream, don’t understand the effort you’re willing to put in to make it happen, or don’t want you to succeed because it will make them feel worse about themselves. They’ll eventually come around when you start achieving success, and if they don’t, don’t worry about it. You can only control yourself – your thoughts/beliefs, actions/inactions, attitude, etc.

Risk-taking to stand out

You must be willing to take risks in order to achieve something extraordinary. Even if it is the risk of failing, of putting yourself out there, of not being accepted or of people mocking your views, if you don’t risk showing your unique self, you will never stand out.

Don’t try to “blend in.” You’re unique. You have unique thoughts, abilities, and mannerisms. Embrace your uniqueness. Follow your interests. And don’t be afraid to show your true self, or else you risk disappearing into the crowd, not standing out from anyone because you don’t stand for anything.

Realize that not falling in line and doing what everyone else says/does may make some people feel uncomfortable. Some people will dislike you for your ideas, others will be envious of your success. But if you stay true to who you are and what your values are, you can go to sleep easy at night, all while achieving great things.

Taking risks is necessary to grow and succeed.

Embrace your unique self

Don’t be afraid to be “weird.” We’re all weird in some ways – some more than others, but that’s good! The worst thing you can be is like everyone else. How boring would it be if you never had an original thought of your own? How terrible would it feel to not be able to express your true self?

You may think you’re weird, but guess what? We all are. Your true friends will accept you for who you are.
